Welcome to!

This is the hardest part of the job.

Google, you’ve given me 14 months of reliable service and I thank you very much for your efforts. Unfortunately, the new beta of Blogger is half-baked and was made public prematurely. With oodles of broken functionality, no way to roll back my account to ‘Blogger Classic’, and no reply to my pleas to your support department, I’m going to have to let you go.

Google, you’re fired.

My penultimate (I’ve been waiting months for an excuse to use that word) entry on my old Blogger page touched on my dissatisfaction with the ever-deteriorating Blogger Beta so I’ve been working round the clock (not really) finding a suitable web host, trying out many different open source self-hosted blog platforms, and futzing around with visual templates to bring my new site into fruition. And here it is!

I’m proud to present to you the new home of the Demodulated blog,  Hopefully I’ll find some other useful content to put on the root and other subdomains. I’ve got to use up my 100GB storage and 1000GB transfer quotas somehow!

So anyway, thanks very much for visiting me at my new cyberhome. If you have any comments about the usability or look of my new layout please leave me a comment and share your thoughts.

About Brian Damage:

Who is Brian really?
I live in Toronto, Canada, and work for an IT firm. That's about as much real-world info I'm comfortable divulging here. What you read on my blog is the real Brian, but, for the sake of freedom of speech, I feel most comfortable leaving a gulf between my cyberspace and meatspace personae.

Who is Brian at work?
My ridiculous job title is "Marketing Specialist" since I wear so many hats at work. I'm a technical writer, a specialist in enterprise search technologies, an electronic forms designer, a newsletter author, system administrator... but I'm in the Marketing department so for the time being I'm stuck with this inauspicious title.

What’s with the superfluous flash at the top near the title? It’s a cool looking spirograph, but really, flash? What’s wrong with an animated gif?

Yeah, I’m not so sure about the flash. Interestingly, the template automatically detects whether Flash is installed, and if it’s not it shows a static gif instead. I might just stick in something custom instead. I hate “toys” and this one is pretty superfluous.

Thanks for the comment!
